Video Blocked

About a month ago I made a viral video that reached over 10 million facebook views across many pages, a million views on snapchat, and 880,000+ views on YouTube. It was called, “The Weeknd- Can’t Feel My Face (Uber Edition). It was a video that brought people together and made them smile. I’m not going to lie, I’m really sad and distraught right now as I try to figure out how to resolve this issue.

As I wait to see the fate of my future, let me tell you that I think this goes into a deeper discussion of how this affects my life as a whole.

It seems every single time I’m getting close to success, there always a force that pushes me back a few steps. I was about to go on a tangent and run my mouth about the unfair things that have happened in my life. However, I’m going to stop right now. I’m going to say this instead.

There are going to be moments where you’re going to face extreme obstacles, a close friend will say that you will never get a big hit again, companies out there want to hold you down, and there are other items out of your control (like events or other artists who do the same thing) that can hurt your chances of success. But, don’t give up. You learn, you work harder, and you do what you can to keep pushing.

Yes, this sucks. However, there is nothing I can do about it and will continue to do my best to make things happen. The beautiful thing about this entire situation is that I think I can turn this around. I think I can turn this into a very positive thing.

We shall see.

Thanks for listening.

  1. Hi Jonathan, I completely get what you’re saying and love the positive twist you’re making. It isn’t always easy to force yourself to see everything as a learning experience. I know 😉 Re this incident; the record label probably claimed a copyright infringement. This so clearly shows they don’t understand this ‘new’ day and age of digital content creation. Something else; I just watched your Uptown Funk video (which btw is also restricted…) and I love it. We just launched my startup brightvibes.com where we share Contagiously Inspiring Stories to have a positive impact. We are Europe based (offices in NL, Spain and UK) I would love to get in touch with you. Can we do a G Hangout or Skype call next week? Would love to hear back from you.
